At the Zambombas

In the city of Jerez they celebrate as only they know how the advent of Xmas with the Zambombas, the flamenco answer to our more staid carol services. Yesterday was the start of a series of vibrant boisterous shows that run through December. Led by a chorus of powerful women singers, urged on by the pulsating rhythm of the zambomba, a large kettle- Drum of African appearance, and with enthusiastic audience participation, it’s a thrilling musical spectacle that stirs heart and soul, whatever one’s religious persuasion.
