Wood Duck on Duckweed
I am pretty sure the plants floating on Scudder Pond are duckweed. Usually they are green but it seems in fall they are pink. Today Shelly and I took a walk in Whatcom Falls Park, my favorite walking spot in Bellingham. We took the route I used to take regularly when I lived within walking distance of the park. I could feel myself relax as we walked into the park along Scudder Pond. I was happy to see Wood Ducks there and this was one of the first photos I took on the walk.
We began our day at the Hilltop Restaurant where we met the other Whatcom Community College retirees who attended this month's gathering. We had a great time chatting and eating our favorites, mine: a garden frittata, Shelly's: pancakes, eggs and sausage. I had brought some of my books along so everybody took a look and had good things to say. Of course I didn't mind that at all.
In the afternoon after our walk we took a nap. Both of us were tired and we lay down around 3:00. We woke to the ring of Shelly's phone around 4:30 and had a lovely chat with his daughter Elke. She had Willy lying on her chest and so we got to see him too. That's because we were doing a video talk. It was nice to see both Elke and Willy.
Nice day all around. Tomorrow it's Whatcom Symphony and I know we will enjoy that too.
