the model and the real thing

After visiting the SS Explorer a few weeks ago Max built a model of a steam trawler which I tweeted about mentioning it's a shame kids can't get to visit as it is in the Port of Leith. The really lovely people from the SS Explorer Preservation Society sorted out the permits so that we could visit. We were not the only ones to visit, a former scientist who worked on the boat for a few weeks visited as well. We got lots of interesting stories what research they did and what life was like on the boat. We got a great and very interesting tour. Our visit finished with tea and sandwiches in the officers' mass. The former scientist told us how they were sitting around the radio when they listened to the JFK speech during the Cuban Missile Crisis. A great day out. And as always, some more photos on flickr.
