Nerine
After a series of sparkling autumn days, today has been grey and dreary, without a scintilla of sunshine. It's been a day of attending to emails, report writing, cooking the Christmas puddings, making mincemeat using some apples were were given by a friend and generally catching up a bit.
It was dark before I realised I hadn't got a photograph, so I quickly popped outside and picked a fading Nerine, which I photographed on the light table. This South African species provides a wonderful splash of colour to the autumn garden, and this year the flowers seem to have lasted particularly well. We were given two clumps by a neighbour and, despite my fears, both survived. Hopefully, next year they may start to spread a little.
