Bus Challenge No 155!

The Somerset Poppies, The Bishop’s Palace, Wells

“The Somerset Poppies is a public installation of artificial poppies, currently being displayed at The Bishop’s Palace until 25th November. The installation features 7986 poppies made by children at schools in and around Wells. Each poppy represents a serviceman from Somerset, or who served in a Somerset regiment, who lost his life in World War One... This collaborative art piece commemorates 100 years since the end of the conflict.” www.bishopspalace.org.uk

Despite my first bus not turning up, and the next one running late which meant a missed connection in Bath, I finally made it to Wells with my BC friend, to visit the final day of the cathedral ‘s WWI Centenary Poppies Exhibition. However when we arrived at the cathedral, we discovered that they’d dismantled the exhibition a day early, and we’d missed it!

Not to worry though, because there were still plenty of poppies on display next door at the Bishop’s Palace, there was Christmas shopping to be had, and it’s always a pleasure just to spend time in Wells. (More poppies in extras, just couldn’t decide. Plus see my last extra for a taste of the beautiful Wells Cathedral; just look at how thousands of feet over hundreds of years have worn down the steps to the Chapter House, if only those stones could talk...)

A mild but dark, foggy day, and a long day, so I’ll catch up with you tomorrow...
