Grasses
A quick visit to the Park this afternoon, because my Rower was on a mission.
Anyone who knows him would realise that this is totally out of character. First of all, he doesn't go out into heat - it's not his thing.
So, it's a 40 degree day, right? Extreme Fire Hazard warnings - right? And the rower heads off on a mission to photograph a stunning avenue of eucalypts! What a day to chose!
We wandered around for a bit, and I am absolutely certain we found a bank in which there were bee nesting holes. Not much of a blip though, a tiny hole in a bank. Then we saw some bigger holes covered in spider silk - but the spiders were all deep in their dens fast asleep. So not too much interest there.
The grass is starting to dry off - if you can imagine a northern hemisphere landscape in deep winter - no green grass, everything pretty barren - well that's a very large part of Australia in summer. Except that our grasses are not killed by cold and frost, but by heat. I was rather taken by these seed heads I found. I haven't a clue what sort of grass it is, but I love the texture and the colour.
