Quod oculus meus videt

The Cross at the Crossing

I visited my parents' neighbour this morning in Lichfield.  Her husband died a week ago and I won't have the opportunity to attend the funeral so I wanted to extend my respects.  We passed a lovely hour reminiscing about times with my Mom and Dad; she is still exceptionally sharp despite her almost 92 years.  I noted a definite stoicism in her attitude after losing her husband of many years.  Sadly their last few years were apart.  He had deteriorated to a point where he needed full time care, beyond her ability to offer.  She is fortunate to have a supportive family around her at this time.

Anyway, before my visit I headed into the city and visited the cathedral.  I'm not religious, but really find the building interesting and a relaxing place.  It was quite a jolt to my memory, walking through the city and cathedral, something I did on many Saturday mornings before visiting Mom.  Last time I was there students from the Bethlehem Icon Centre and School were preparing this cross for hanging from the nave roof of the cathedral.  Today, it was there in all of its glory, exquisitely lit.
