Plus est en vou

I came across this small plate on a new bench that has been sited in the churchyard opposite my house. The churchyard is a short cut and very widely used, not just by those attending church! I was pleased to see the seat is in memory of my neighbour George who died last year. I had no idea what plus est en vou meant but discovered it is the motto of Gordonstoun school. It means, there is more in you, and describes their ethos of providing a wide education, not just one focused on academic achievement. This all led me to have a chat with George’s wife who told me that George worked at Gordonstoun school for several years. I had no idea so I’ve learnt something today.
