Pippy Oak
Bought this wood ages ago, but only yesterday got around to making it into a shelf. Quercus Robor, to give it its Latin name (which I think sounds like a character from a sci-fi movie), it is also known colloquially in Britain as Cat’s Paw Oak. It’s a tough test even for a table saw; you can feel the effort for the blade as you are cutting into it. The brackets are iron to match the table frame; now that we know we like the look I am tasked with putting up another one, so have had some more brackets delivered from Amazon.
I also have some Italian Olive in the workshop. But I’m still learning how to get a nice finish on good wood. It’s a wonderful feeling, sanding into the grain of nice timber; very relaxing.
Today I tried to pace myself a bit more evenly (in all things); work was okay, bit tiring, had the energy to make a proper meal when we got home.
House feels peaceful tonight. I’ve taken out a British Film Institute online subscription so may head to bed with an obscure black and white movie ...
