Calm waters

I went to the Isle of Wight today to look at some bones (and indeed to bring a couple back with me to send on to the lab for radiocarbon dating). I left in a hail storm this morning and the weather was intermittently awful all day, in between sunny spells. The traffic was awful too both ways on the A3 and there was a crash and lengthy tailback on the homeward leg, but at least the ferries were on time (which apparently they haven’t often been lately).

It was my first time on the island since childhood and I thought the countryside was really nice. Likewise the heritage people I was working with in the store - and there was even a resident indoor blue tit and a Spitfire flying overhead all day (apparently it’s £3-4000 a ride). Must go back for a little holiday when circumstances allow.
