Poppies, Poetry and Projections

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice Luton not only held the traditional 11:00 remembrance service, but also an event called Poppies, Poetry and Projections.

The event was held in the evening so that the town hall could have images from WW1 projected on to it, while the Salvation Army band played and poetry (much composed for the event) and prose was read.

The projected images ended with the roll call of those who gave their lives from the town in WW1.
The use of the town hall as the "screen" also has a local significance, since the previous one was burned down in the Peace Day Riots in 1919, when the good folk of the town protested at the way the servicemen were treated and ignored by the local council in their peace day celebration.
