An inspiration.

I watched the programme from the Cenotaph this morning on TV and was inspired by this veteran who was interviewed by Dan Snow.

He had travelled from San Diego to march with his Bomber Command veterans. He was very articulate and spoke proudly of his RAF career and his apprenticeship at RAF Halton in 1938. He is a Trenchard ‘brat’, alternately known as a Halton brat. Not a derogatory term, but one of affection. B is one of the 106 entry who graduated in 1966.

It was sobering to hear that 55% of his comerades did not return from the raids. At the age of 97 he was there to remember the men who did not return and has already booked to return next year. He will not be deterred by inclement weather. I didn’t catch his name when he was introduced.
