Celebrating life

Ugh

Orange fruits
Bursting
In the cold months
From blotched, shrivelling, bell-like seed pods.
Leaves persisting green
Offering up
When crushed
L'odeur du boeuf.

Iris foetidissima or Stinking iris is so called because some people find the 'beefy' smell of its leaves unpleasant when crushed or bruised.

An evergreen perennial, it is one of two iris species native to Britain, the other being the Yellow iris (Iris pseudacorus). The flowers are usually a dull, purply-blue colour, tinged with yellow.

I backblipped Room with a view for yesterday.
