Stanley Spencer
My blipping friend, Paola drove us both to Sandham Memorial Chapel, near Newbury, now supported by the National Trust. We explored the paintings of Stanley Spencer. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to photograph due to licensing laws. Stanley Spencer served in the 1st World War over 100 years ago. He was inspired by an Italian artist celled Giotto. Stanley designed the chapel and filled it with his paintings, which tell the story of his war experiences. The Behrend family funded his project. The chapel is named after Harry Sandham, Mrs Behrend's brother who also served in the war.
Thank you Paola for taking me and driving in this horrendous weather. We had a lovely lunch in the local pub and chatted, as you do, we had a lovely day, despite the weather!
