Je suis un Allemand

And so at 2 p.m. this afternoon, I received my Certificate that means I'm officially Germany's problem.

I am, naturally, delighted.  So delighted that we went staright down to the Bürger-Büro and applied for my Personalausweis (ID Card).  I'll get that in a couple of weeks.  And when my British passport runs out, I'll apply for a German one.

But for the rest of today I shall bask in my Germanicity.  I shall celebrate with a low-calorie, organic lemonade because that's what I do these days.

It's a relief and it is oddly joyous.

It does raise the question of whether my Journal name should stay the same or should I change it to Mitbürger.  I think a part of me will always be der Ausländer, and I have grown used to it as my Name - much more than Pete oder Peter.  Or indeed "Du Arsch".
