Chirk Aqueduct
En-route to our holiday cottage (just outside Shrewsbury) we detoured to see the magnificent Chirk Aqueduct - something I have had on my 'to visit' list for some time.
It's a high and long navigable aqueduct that carries what is now the Llangollen Canal across the Ceiriog Valley near Chirk. One end is in Wales, the other end is in England - not sure about the bit in-between.
Alongside is a railway viaduct - purposely built to be higher than the canal aqueduct to demonstrate that rail transport was better than canal transport.
I managed to Blip a train travelling over the viaduct, but regretfully no narrowboat.
