The Giralda in Seville

A view from the Orange Tree Courtyard of the Seville cathedral, showing the Giralda, which adjoins it.

The tower was formerly a minaret; it's 95 meters high, towering over Seville literally and symbolically. The cathedral is massive, the third largest in Europe after St. Peter's in Rome and St. Paul's in London.

This evening we went to an excellent flamenco show. This reminded me of a second John Singer Sargent tribute to Spain: his El Jaleo, a painting of a flamenco dancer (in the Gardner Museum in Boston). (The first Sargent tribute--which I blipped a few days ago--was Las Meninas in the Prado.
