Westport Walk
Sometimes I forget I am retired and try and lead a Monday to Friday weekends off life. Chores and jobs around the house and garden are done during the week along with voluntary work at the church or local community business. However, some of this work is encroaching into weekends, leaving us less time to do what we please.
Today dawned bright with a very cold northerly wind. There was a sunrise of sorts but not enough to persuade me to go out and stand in the cold! I did try some bird blips once the sun had risen in the sky, but again it was just too cold for standing around.
We decided it was time for a day out so we headed over to the west coast and went to Glenbarr for lunch. Afterwards we went into to Campbeltown to get some bits and pieces before returning to the west coast for a walk along Westport Beach. The stretch of sand between Machrihanish and Westport is probably our favourite beach walk. Generally, you have the place to yourself in winter other than the occasional dog walker or brave surfer. I had hoped to catch a sunset, although the clouds on the horizon suggested it might disappear behind them. I rattled off a few blips as the sun cast its rays on the sea from behind the clouds. I was glad I did as the sunset petered out quickly. On review, I settled on this shot because it best captured the overall scene. The view is looking south towards the Mull of Kintyre with the Antrim coast of Northern Ireland in the distance below the sun's rays. The solitary figure is MrsB who is walking fast to keep warm. In LARGE you may see a surfer in the distance, who we later talked to. For some strange reason he was finding it cold, but insisted the water was actually still quite warm! We weren't persuaded and couldn't decide whether he was brave or simply mad!
