The Veggie Patch

I spent most of this morning in the veggie patch preparing an area for some tube stock of two grass varieties that I had ordered online. I’ve never done that before but the reviews on the website were very positive. I managed to track down a grass/sedge that has been growing very successfully at the Rural Fire Station near our property. It’s called Carex Appressa. I have been impressed that it hasn’t been eaten by the kangaroos or wallabies and thought it might be worth trying at Wombat Hollow. So now the veggie patch has become a grass nursery :). I will take a photo as an extra tomorrow and perhaps we can follow its progress!!

We will let them develop in the veggie patch until they’re fairly substantial and then transfer them to the garden in front of the patio. I’m sure I’m going to have to put some protection around them until they are really fully grown, but it will be fun trying to outsmart my little wallaby buddies.

I have to say, the way the company packed the grass was very clever, they arrived in great shape and still seemed to have lots of moisture. I will certainly use them again if these grasses work out.
