Sadness
I made it to the funeral. Had to walk round the outside of the church on arrival as the tears started. I sat right at the back so I could leave if I needed to. The service was pitched just right - her two brothers, father and mother spoke. One of the brothers showed photos of her with her various expressions which provoked much laughter. Her father relayed how they discovered she was a rock chick when she was heard laughing at heavy metal playing on the radio - she was carried out of the church to Enter Sandman by Metallica.
The vicar was super - going so far as to say he wouldn't say Rebekah was now whole in body, that her path through life may have been different to ours, but she was of no less value, she was who she was and that was more than enough and to say otherwise was disrespectful. I thanked him afterwards.I spent a long time outside talking to old parents and staff, but didn't go on to the hotel for the wake.
