Robber Fly

A particularly warm day brought out all sorts of flies- bristle flies, butterflies, hover flies, damsel flies, and this robber fly. I love these big ugly flies. Their complicated thorax fascinates me. No doubt it is the apparatus required for catching prey on the wing. I’ve blipped them many times before, but my favourite shot was the full frontal one.
