For World AIDS Day...

December 1st is World AIDS Day so as an awareness raising activity among my students we organized a human AIDS Day ribbon.

Sex Education in China is something that is often overlooked by both schools and parents. It is something that many teachers are quite embarrassed to talk about and often only the basics are covered. Parents also find it difficult to raise the issue with their kids, out of embarrassment and a fear that talking about sex will only encourage their children to engage in it. The fact is though that more and more young people in China are engaging in sex but are not equipped with the knowledge to protect themselves. Many hospitals advertise 'painless' abortions and many young men don't like using condoms.

Outside many university campuses are 'Happy Hour' hotels where students can escape their same sex dorms to be with their partner for a while. But actually on campus there are seldom condom vending machines and many students are embarrassed to buy them from a shop, certainly a shop on campus (or are they?).
