Local Oscars

The Salford City Council employee awards this afternoon. A good event, all sorts of different people awarded, from binmen and cleaning staff to senior managers.

The montage includes: the official photographer lining up “Salford in Harmony”, the choir were performing; the same taking pics of those who have hit the 25 years milestone; the employee of the year ( before I knew who she was); and the glitzy layout of the room at Buile Hill.

In these times of austerity (Salford has lost £198m of government funding since 2010), diminished staff resources and increasing demands, it is good to celebrate all the hard work and innovation going on. Too often people are not thanked for what they do, in often difficult circumstances.
