The Alamo. San Antonio, Texas. (Back Blip)
I think that the words The Alamo, conjure up lots of differing images for different people.
For me, I only ever thought of it as an image in a Western, an old song vaguely called to mind, and Davy Crockett, "King of the Wild Frontier" with his iconic hat!
Yet I discovered he was much more than that, eventually representing Tennessee in the United States' House of Representatives for awhile. He fought in the Texan Revolution, after moving South via Houston and Austin. He eventually lost his life at the Alamo in 1836.
That is only a very brief part of his story. If anyone would like to read more the link is here:

More than 2 million people alone visit the Alamo each year. It has been a crossroads for Texan history, seeing Spanish colonization taking hold, and a place where Mexico armed it's Independence, but mostly for the deaths of the small band of Texans who held out against General Lopez de Santa Anna in the struggle for liberty and their own independence.
It is now a small iconic "Fort" which houses the story of the Texas Revolution and Texas History. There is a lot to read and assimilate!
Beautiful walled gardens surround the small enclosed site and I've posted some in the extras. A tranquil shady oasis.
It was a very hot sunny day when we were there with temperatures of 30C.
