Confederate Rose
The Confederate Rose is actually a hibiscus. There are a couple of reasons it is believed how it got the name Confederate Rose.
After the Civil War the landscape was horribly trodden and trampled. The once plentiful and gorgeous rose gardens in the south were gone.
The once prosperous plantation owners were not in a position to buy and replace the rose bushes.
But there was a plant that had fluffy blooms like a rose, grew quickly and was cheap! They became plentiful across the south.
The story I personally like the best is; the blooms are a darker shade of pink in the afternoon than they are in the morning. It is said that this is because it is drawing the blood of all the fallen soldiers from the soil.
We were at the skin surgeon’s office at 7:15 this morning and all went great. They allowed me to be in the room while the surgery was done and I was also allowed to take photos!
There had been a concern that they might need to take multiple sections before clean edges were obtained but we were extremely fortunate in that clean edges were gotten when the first section was removed!
Subcutaneous stitches and then “superglue” on the surface and we are done. There is no follow up other than Kent’s yearly dermatology screening. Yay.
