Woad
With a rhododendron in the background and watsonia on the right. The blue dye obtained from woad was used by the ancient Britons as a body paint. My neighbour uses it to dye her alpaca fibre.
The extra photo shows a row of young carrots. The netting is an attempt to deter quail, blackbirds, weka and pukeko.
