Homage to Harry Beck

Standing at Whitechapel waiting for a District Line train I was drawn to this macrame wall of signalling cables.
The appeal lay in similarities between this chaotic order and the fluid connectivity of the Underground tube map.

Harry Beck was a humble draftsman designing signalling layouts for London Underground in the early 1930's, when he created the prototype for a map of the tube system based on modernist abstraction rather than conventional cartography.
Much extended, but in principle unchanged in distinctive spirit, Beck's trusted tube map has been in constant use ever since.

Might Harry Beck have designed the origins of this important wiring interchange in Whitechapel Station?
Might this, in turn have inspired his earliest sketched thoughts for the tube map?
