The Outsider / The Insider

I have walked past, and through, these gates so many times and have just noticed the snake and butterfly. I've previously just seen a random pattern in the gate, never a coiled snake, and I only spotted the second snake when I was looking back through my photos!

The bronze gates are at one of the entrances to the Whitworth Art Gallery and are by Simon Periton. I have no idea if the snake or the butterfly is The Outsider or The Insider!  The right hand gate was pushed back against the railings so I couldn't get a good shot of it but it just had flowers and a bit more of the coiled body.
