I put a Spell on you, because you're mine...
In East Ayrshire, Halloween has already passed.
This may surprise those of you who know that "halloween" is shortened version of "All Hallows Eve", the Eve, before All Saints Day, and All Souls Day (31st October, 1st and 2nd November).
When I completed my teaching practise in a School in East Ayrshire, all the pupils readily advised me that Halloween always fell on the last Friday of October.
I did try to explain the religious significance of the festival; that it was a celebration of the evening before ALL SAINTS day which was fixed, 1st November; the day the evil souls took to the earth, and were chased back by humans in the guise of ghoulies and ghosties.
But no. the locals of Kilmarnock are a law unto themselves. Last Friday in October.
So this year, Halloween was on 26th October.
Now you know.
