A life in the day

The necessary thing for anyone to be happy and contented as long as he lives is working for the ones who will come after him rather than working for himself... One can reach the true delight and happiness in the life only by working for the existence, honor, and happiness of the future generations.
- Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (1881-1938) Founder of the Turkish Republic

Today,Turkey celebrates 95 years as a republic, "Cumhuriyet Bayramı," making it 9 years younger than this building, the original school building, which was completed in 1914 when the 'American College for girls', (founded in 1871), moved on to their new campus on the European side of the Bosphorus. It would be another 100 years before the school became co-ed, when the boys from Robert College, (founded in 1863), moved here, from their campus in Bebek, bringing the school name with them, whilst their old buildings became the Bosphorus University.

Republic Day marks the creation of the Turkish Republic in 1923. After Turkey’s victory in the War of Independence (1919-1923), the Turkish parliament proclaimed the new Turkish state as a republic. A new constitution, which the parliament adopted on October 29, 1923, replaced the constitution of the Ottoman Empire. The leader in the Turkish War of Independence, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, became the country’s first president on the same day. According to Atatürk, Republic Day is Turkey’s most important holiday. - https://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/turkey/republic-day

Another beautifully warm sunny day, the only thing of note that I accomplished was to take a sick campus kitty to the vet.  There's a community of semi feral cats I feed daily, and I've had my eye on this one for a while as being in need of some assistance. Sweet thing walked straight in to the cat carrier and we were at the vet's before you could say "Whiskers" - but I didn't think to take a photo.  Other than that all I did today, what was left of it once I got up, was mull and mope - oh and mark some students' tests.
