Stormy weather

As forecast the rain came. In gouts of great intensity and then longer periods of soothing simplicity.  Wonderful after such a long period of dry weather. Although by the late afternoon the gloom required a knife to cut out patches for the remaining light.

The water intensified the autumn colours and the low clouds changed the look of our encircling wooded hills. I've bunged in a few extras.

I made sauce from the last tomatoes and listened to a lot of radio and looked a lot at Twitter.

There are red alerts out for large parts of northern Italy tomorrow when this intense and deepening low reaches it apogee. River levels in the north east are already high. I will probably skedaddle back to Fiesole in the morning before the worst of the rain and wind hits: our rental apartment sits at the bottom of a garden slope and the patio drains, if blocked, would soon lead to the flooding of the precious terracotta floors.

Terrible news from Crotone in Calabria where four people were buried alive in a huge trench they were digging.  The work had gone on late into last night as the weather forecast for today was so appalling. Then disaster struck.
