Flummoxed Flora
< back blip >
This red yucca (not a relative of the Yucca genus), has been totally fooled by our rather luscious Autumn weather. Look! It's actually blooming. That stalk should be dry by now, totally brittle (no green inside, which it obviously still has if it is supporting life) and ready for me to lop them off at the base.
Those stalks get lopped off from the base of the plant over the winter to encourage new growth, and hopefully, more stalks than the previous year during the next Spring.
Our highs have been hovering around 80F (27C), about ten degrees above normal, (21C). It was 84F on Thanksgiving.
Lows have been a pleasant, crack open the windows at night, 50F (10C).
Even the first weekend of December will be as warm. I'm just preparing for the worst. Just placed an order with LL Bean for a sweater and other warmer clothes for what I'm sure will be some chillier weather to come.
January and February never disappoint if you like cold weather. I'm not complaining. I know everything is relative...
