Glow in the Park
A group of us from work signed up to do the Glow in the Park. All the monies raised will go to Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Terry picked me up and took me back to his house where Sue had poured very large gin and tonics...just what you need to prepare for a 5k walk. We painted our faces with neon paints and glitter, stuck on the mandatory head torch and accessorised with glow stick necklaces.
It was the coldest night so far, but thankfully dry, so we layered up and Terry taxied is to Heaton Park. We met up with the girls and the three thousand other participants. Jess, Suzanne and Rebecca jogged away from us, we were happy to walk and have a laugh together. Most people were walking and we all took our time in the different zones. There was music and flashing lights, foam galore and paint.
The temperature had dropped considerably by the time we finished so there was a great need to buy a hot hot dog to warm up. The others had all travelled by tram so headed off to their exit from the park, Sue and I headed back towards the car park where Terry had dropped us off....or so we thought! It was only after walking for what seemed far longer than when we arrived that we realised we were lost. Thank goodness for our head torches. We headed towards the sound of traffic and prayed the gate was open, although we had decided we were scaling the walls rather than head back into the black abyss. Thank the lord it was open and we fell back into civilisation again. We looked a right pair in our neon clothes, head torches on, Glow in the Park head bands, foam covered trainers and paint splattered clothes as was stood by the road waiting for Terry. A few second looks from passing motorists as we waited.
It was lovely to get into a warm car....not so lovely to get home and find the boiler on the blink again. Thank goodness for hot water bottles. But....a grand day.
Hopefully, I will get back into this blipping lark again now. I think I’ve just lost my mojo lately and I’ve been working lots of extra days so I’m knackered. I’ll try to catch up with people soon x
