Heading For The Top?
We were up early this morning for an excursion to Mount Teide, in the volcanic heart of Tenerife. It was another beautifully crisp, clear morning and I couldn't resist this view, taken when the bus stopped about halfway up, with the morning light on the forest that covers the lower slopes.
When the got there we took the cable car to just below the conical tip of the mountain and walked a bit further along the trail although there wasn't time to get to the top.
We also had some time once we came back down inthe cable car to admire the strange rock formations in the ancient caldera of another long gone volcano just below Teide.
The extra shows part of the caldera, with its walls in the distance and the rock formation known as The Cathedral inthe near distance. If you look carefully you can just see some peopl at the foot of the formation to the left of The Cathedral, who give a sense of scale.
Despite appearances, the area was swarming with visitors and traffic!
We got back mid-afternoon, since when we have been reading inthe sun - and I kept a close eye on Yeovil's very useful win away at Carlisle, in which we scored the only goal in the 6th minute of added time. It's the sort of thing that has happened to us in the last few seasons, so it's nice for the (football) boot to be on the other foot this season. It also moved us handily 4 places up the League table.
