Pet Insurance - time for a RANT!
Went up Blackford Hill in the car and then I had a good 40 mins off my lead to run about and roll around on my back. Yay! I had a fabulous time but my very lovely owner, Ann, is in a bad mood so she needs to have a good old rant. Feel free to switch to another BLIP now.
My Pet Insurance costs Ann £539.88 each year and today she got a letter saying that from the 4 Nov it was going to cost £584.26, so that's an increase of almost £50. To be honest that wouldn't have bothered her, had she not also got two other letters saying that she was NOT going to be paid for my osteoarthritis pills because it was an ongoing issue which was more than 12 months old. Grrrrrrrr.........................
What a load of absolute rubbish! I went to the vet on 6th July 2017 because I was being snail like on my walks and the vet tried me on a drug called Rimadyl, which made absolutely no difference to me at all. Ann didn't try and claim this back on my insurance because it was just slightly below the £60 excess. Because this drug hadn't worked and I didn't seem to be in pain I wasn't put on anything else.
On the 15 May 2018 I went back to the vets and was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and put on a drug called Onsior. This worked immediately and I've been on it ever since. Because the consultation fee and the tablets must have come to more than £60 Ann completed an insurance claim form for me and the receptionist said that I could back date it to last year when I was first treated for osteoarthritis, ....................except I didn't have osteoarthritis then. I was just being slow?! Anyway we got a pay out of about £60 in May.
So since May 2018 I've been taking Onsior every day and before we left St Ives to come to Edinburgh, I went to the vets to get checked over and get a few months supply. In total, Ann has paid £240.13 for my tablets since May. And now Tesco Pet Insurance is refusing to pay because they say the initial problem was diagnosed in July last year. Duh............................ If they actually bothered to check their records they will see that we haven't claimed anything until May this year.
To be honest, when the receptionist said that she could back date our claim Ann was just happy that she'd be getting some money back. I guess she should have read the small print. However, it is absolutely ridiculous that just because a claim was backdated to July 2017 and then nothing else was claimed until May 2018; that counts for 12 months. Seriously NOT happy!!!
Tomorrow Ann is going to phone Tesco pet insurance and have a good old rant at them. That's assuming she can speak to a real live person.
Oh and just in case anyone is interested...................... Yes, Ann is going to keep paying my pet insurance because I'm more than 14 years old and who knows what ailments or illnesses I'm going to get in the future. However, if she ever gets another dog.................. no way will she be paying for pet insurance. It's a rip off! My pet insurance started off at less than £60 a year and Ann didn't claim anything for me until I was more than 10 years old.
If Ann ever gets another dog, what she will do, is open an account for her new pooch so that her new pooch has it's own account to pay for it's own stuff.
Insurance for everything is just a total rip off. They seem to use any little thing not to pay out. Seriously thinking of cancelling the house contents insurance too. Is this really necessary? Been paying house contents insurance for more than 30 years and haven't claimed anything???
OK RANT over. Hopefully my BLIP will be happier tomorrow. Lol!!!
