Everyday I Write The Book

Old haunts

Halloween is everywhere this week although black and orange plastic bats don’t really frighten anyone. We wonder why our world is being choked by plastic then stuff the shops with it at every opportunity. Now that is scary.

This annual day of nightmares has of course has lost its terror in this age of Trump, Brexit, and right wing politics.  When evil has possessed the upper echelons of society how can anything else be scary?

This is an abandoned church in Weybridge and it is genuinely spooky even in daylight. I am sure the statue above the door moves and don’t get me started on the strange heads either side. English Heritage have a sign up saying they have allocated some money for a refurb. Personally I prefer my ruins to crumble if they are not going to be put to good use. Seems more natural.

Good day at work but tiring. Enjoyed the company of colleagues. They are an intelligent bunch and very committed. Getting very cold ‘though - for once I am beginning to believe the forecasts of a hard winter.

Anyway going back to Halloween - my favourite gag from this years Edinburgh Festival is good for the season. "I took out a loan for an exorcism. If I don’t keep up the payments I could be repossessed". Love that one.
