Mono Monday - Alien
They live amongst us!
As it happens, today the eagerly awaited hand carved oak sculpture arrived and was set in its position on Charfield Hill. Commissioned by the Clean Up, Green Up Charfield group and paid for by a bequest and grants by the Parish Council and the Charfield Association, it is based upon unfurling New Zealand ferns. Such things are of course alien to this country, but were much favoured by the lady who bequeathed the money.
It stands about five feet high on a small green space on the hill visible as you head west out of the village. Carved by Andy at Wildwood Carvings from an oak that had to be felled at the National Arboretum at Westonbirt, just up the road. It looks very fine and should stand there for many years. It has been named as "Circinate Vernation", as that's the technical term for how a fern unfolds.
Colour shot in the extra.
