Wedding Cake
We found this extraordinary confection in one of the shops of Oxford's Covered Market.
I was taking photographs of the inside of the market and of its fine ceiling adorned with Christmas decorations, but became distracted by this fantastic cake. It's fantastic in the proper sense of the word. In this photograph of Avenue 4 of the Market, just beyond the famous Brown's Café, you may be able to make out the lettering on the next shop that reads 'Sugarcraft Supplies', and the sign 'The Cake Shop'. That's where the wedding cake was displayed in the window.
The Cake Shop is a well established attraction in the Covered Market. The Covered Market is, in itself, one of the tourist destinations of Oxford, well over 200 years old.
Those who do not know our Covered Market might like to look at the Virtual Tour of it, which is itself just one component of the Virtual Tour of Oxford devised by my colleague Karl Harrison of the Department of Chemistry, and assembled with the help of students in the department.
