Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Sultan Qaboos has been reigning in Oman for around 50 years and has certainly made his mark. Every city has beautiful new mosques bearing his name and this one, in Muscat, is the biggest and most splendid of all. Opened it 2001, like a lot of the Omani architecture we saw it has a fairly unormanted exterior, built from pinkish stone that blends with the mountainous backdrop. Inside. the main event is the vast men's prayer hall where craftsmen have created wonderful artefacts such as this chandelier inside the main dome.
