Crawford Priory

It sounded intriguing, this Priory ruin in deepest Fife so, after a potter round nearby Cupar we took the track from Springfield to view the evidence.

The priory has the appearance of a Gothic mansion, with arched windows, much ecclesiastical detail but in fact has no religious background. Originally built as a simple hunting lodge in 1758, it was enlarged and extended in the C19 and a chapel added in 1871. Internal changes were made in the early C20. In 1968 the house was closed permanently and is now a  ruin, the roof fallen in, vegetation taking over.

Curiosity satisfied, we continued to have a quick look at Hill of Tarvit and then Ceres, vowing to return to see these interesting  places in more detail.
