Turkish Undelight
Learnt lots of Greek/history today, courtesy of SIL via Whatsapp (thanks Hellabelle) & a tour round the Acropolis.
Little miss bossy's eyes might have been hidden behind her sunglasses, but I could hear them rolling as we learnt that the goddess Athena was born from Zeus's head after he'd eaten her mother (& obvs. her) before getting the god of ironmongery (I think, can't remember his name though...) to open his head with an axe (possibly) to cure a little headache...talk about over-reaction.
We also learnt that the Parthenon was surviving quite nicely, thank you very much, until the Turks came along, fought with the Athenians, built a mini town on top of the Acropolis (because the Greeks down below were scary) and then decided to pick a fight with the Venetians, which happened during the time of canons & gun powder & the crazy Turks stored their stash of explodables in the Parthenon....
