Landing

The second day of shooting track and field photos of our friend from Las Vegas. I went into this weekend with a lot of ideas about the kind of photos I expected to capture based on years of reading Sports Illustrated. Just like with volleyball, however, I found that photos of amateur athletes often don't match those of professionals. This shot of a long jump landing was an exception. My borrowed Canon 1Dx Mark II maintained focus on the jumper throughout the entire sequence and I was able to get the splash of sand I have seen in so many photos over the years. Now, if only they had been jumping facing the sun instead of with it behind them.
