Up early and decided to head straight off to Perthshire, despite the pouring rain, since it seems it’s set for the day so we might as well get on and try and make the most of it! Breakfast at Loch Leven larder, in the midst of being extended, alongside lots of people who’d clearly just finished a run around the Loch in the rain and sat steaming gently as they devoured their breakfasts! I liked the sign strung above the doors (extra)....
Arrived in Dundee and had to walk quite a way from the car park to the V&A (and realised my boots aren’t waterproof!). It’s a lovely building, both outside and in (extra), filled with beautiful wood, fossil-filled floor slate, and glass through which you can glimpse the river and sky (both grey today!). Mind you I think it could have been bigger - perhaps mainly because it’s attracting hordes of visitors so was very crowded. They’ve had 115,000 visitors in the 3 weeks it’s been opened, against a plan to bring 500,000 over the first year! We had a good look round - enjoyed the exhibition in the design gallery especially the Mackintosh room which underlined what’s been lost at Glasgow’s School of Art.
Back through the rain to the car then up to Aberfeldy. Even in the rain and really low cloud the trees along our way were stunning in their many colours...just what we’d hoped for. We had a mooch around the town, checking out the homeware, art and clothes before tea and cake in the Mill bookshop. Very cosy and such a great little spot.
Back to hotel for a couple of hours of rest and pootling before dinner at Ballintaggart....or rather, because of a mix up with their online booking system, at their new hotel in Grandtully. More informal a la carte menu, and some prosecco on the house for our trouble. Enjoyed local oysters and partridge then home grown apple and berry crumble...yum!...before drive home. The rain has almost stopped...thank goodness!
