Outing
It only seems like two minutes ago that I was replacing my fire grate and doing fireplace repairs. I think they make grates with poor quality iron these days, they used to last ages; built in obsolescence.
So I set off to the builders supply this morning in the pouring rain. Once in the car I switched on the radio and before I’d heard the first bar of this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MiXgOQ9_-RI I was in tears. Whoever said ‘time heals’ should be put up against the wall and shot for the crime of glib statement of the highest order. It’s a sop for our perfectly understandable human fears and not having a clue what else to say. Over six years on its still bollocks. Edna again...https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/4840254
As I pulled up at the lights a chap with a pushchair looked in - fortunately it would have been hard to tell the difference between the tears pouring down my face and the rain pouring down the windscreen. It only takes a few minutes to get to the builders supply so I pulled myself together and got on with it and the rest of the shopping.
Once the repairs were done I donned all my wet weather gear and went down to the river. I only just got onto the footbridge with the water up to the top of my wellies. I thought better of staying on the ‘wrong’ side imagining all the water pouring out of Ullswater and retraced my steps and walked down to Barton where the Pooley Bridge Road was fast becoming impassable. Then waded on up the hill, across the fields and back, clearing drains where I could on the way.
(Wondering at what kind of world sells goodie bags from a wedding on eBay for £1000...there must be a remote island somewhere to retreat to).
