The Fern Burn
This lovely spot is about 25 minutes drive from town and non walkers probably don't even know it is there.
There is only 1 downside to this place and that is because the access track passes through farm land, no dogs are allowed so it was with real reluctance that I gave the d recorder ( d for dog and digital) to Tiny Tussock and the commentary is now hers.
It takes about an hour to walk from the car park to the area called "The Stand conservation area" and you arrive in this native bush clad area with The Fern Burn bubbling over rock ledges on your right. Serious camera carriers stop right there, but the track continues for about another 30 minutes until it crosses a bridge and then heads up up up to the first hut on the tops and ultimately Arrowtown on the other side of some significant hills some time later (days) . The Boss has never done this bit and probably won't but My Friend Peter who was with us this morning would have, had The Boss not sharply declined on the basis that he had to return and mow lawns and didn't come prepared for a long slog either.
We will return again to this spot as the Bossess camera spent some time on his mini tripod with an ND filter on the front and the Boss spent an equal amount of time drooling.
The Bossess camera was also the source of potential trouble as N and N stopped to chat and The Boss advised them that their beloved Olympus film camera had been reborn and actually let them hold it and look through the viewfinder.
OH DEAR. I think their Christmas wish list has been revised. Sorry guys but you did say that you were going to ask anyway.
Disappointment waited as on return we found that The Bossess had not mowed the lawn or taken Tussock on a stickathon. (She did however take her on a ball throwing session in the garden so it's not all bad.)
The Boss said he had a headache and needed a LLD (Little Lie Down) Then went to the Supermarket to find no Strawberries and the Cream sold out.
You win some...You lose some.
