Upfield

A pleasant afternoon comprised of bratwurst, frankfurter, harzer, schinkenspeck, gluhwein, weissbier, and not mentioning the war. Yes, the Germans are in town with their annual Frankfurt market, and the streets are filled with the sound of bagpipes. (Personally, I'd have thought an oompah band might be more suitable to the occasion, but never underestimate the ability of Scots to cash in on a good idea).

I had a great time knocking around the various stalls, meeting a variety of interesting folks, and considering whether Frankfurt has its very own Birmingham market, where old blokes in hats and prim Jamaican women wander round in circles, gold jewellery is bought at cut price and sold for an arm and a leg, while an entire corner of the premises smells of ganja on a permanent basis for no apparent reason.

However, it was this view that really caught me today. Needless Alley with the sun at its southern tip, shining up the hill, beaming on the folks going about their happy Fridays.
