Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Good coffee!

... or rather - one to my liking!

Caught the sun coming up over the valley this morning (about 7.40) and it promised a fine day. Well, it wasn’t too fine, but at least it didn’t rain, which is just as well, as I set off for the day without a jacket or umbrella.

We decided on a little jaunt, to a place that is not recommended in any tourist info. Not that it's NOT recommended, it's just not mentioned. But it's at the other end of our most used bus to Pont du Gard, Nîmes and Avignon.

And it was bigger than we thought. Quite nice shops, JR noted, but our aim was to find a cafe, as we needed our second breakfast, our first one at the flat was fruit and yoghurt. We chose well. The kind lady, who didn’t speak any English, was really careful to ascertain my specialist caffeine needs. And she got it right! I nearly hugged her. It's not that hard, it's just that I’ve been asking for the wrong thing...

It was an hour's journey, quite pleasant, despite the ever-present rasping local radio blasting out incomprehensible shouty adverts and the occasional familiar tune.

In the afternoon we went to the Tourist Info to ask where I could print out our boarding passes (thanks again, Ryanair, why can’t we get them before we set off when I have access to a printer?) The Tourist lady said we could do it there. Très Bon! But they won't send them till Saturday.

We had a wee wander round town, picked up a bottle of wine, chuckled at the prices on the menus (it's quite an upmarket wee town), had a wee sit down in the square till the tree lights came on, then home to a delicious thrown-together meal in the now warm flat, with Radio 4 on the iPad.

Planning a Big Trip tomorrow, maybe even on a train! Apparently the fare is €1, but that seems unbelievably magnanimous.
