Dipper
Cinclus cinclus
A Dipper bobs incongruously in amongst the rubbish and detritus of the Burdiehouse Burn.
They are classified as songbirds, despite their rather more ducklike behaviour of rummaging in water for their food and you will find them in amongst the songbirds in your bird book. The Dipper walks right into and under the water to look for food.
I put a great big rip in my trousers looking for this bird as I had to climb over a fence that seemed designed to do exactly that. :-(
