Pick Up a Parka

A sturdy and steadfast staple of Scottish wardrobes for many years, the parka is once again on trend. Transformed from US military issue uniform to fashion icon by the mods of the 60's, seen flying in the wind from the back of their scooters. The parka then returned to the fashion spotlight and became a uniform once again, this time of the 90's grunge generation lead by the Gallagher brothers- possibly the most unlikely trendsetters in fashion history.
Thankfully this fashionista has chosen not to accessorise her parka with a mop top, sunglasses and a bad attitude, and instead has gone with an on trend ensemble. The pleated leather skirt, cut off denim shirt, heavy studded boots and gorgeous spike collar necklace give this parka a bit of edge. The khaki jacket and heavy boots give the look and overall military feel, taking this iconic jacket back to its fashion roots. The length and fit of this parka mean it can be worn with almost anything; layer over a chunky knit or a floaty dress and tights. The high street has produced endless versions of the parka this season so its well worth investing in a style you like. It's not often a jacket comes along that's both on trend and appropriate for the Scottish winter climate.
I particularly loved all the different textures in this fashionista's outfit. The combination of canvas, denim, faux fur and leather add another dimension to the outfit, stopping the look from becoming a bit bland or boring. Though by leaving her long hair down and natural, and keeping her make up fresh and girly she stops the look becoming overly masculine.
Not a fan of the traditional 90's grunge parka? Don't fret. This season the parka has had a major fashion makeover. It comes in a style, shape, cut, print and fabric to suit everyone. Embellished, embroidered, leather, quilted or printed- take your pick. The parka has achieved the ultimate upgrade to 'Luxe' status. Mulberry's A/W collection inspired by Maurice Sendak's 'Where The Wild Things Are', featured beautiful graphic print parkas teamed with chunky knits, flowing dresses and pencil skirts.
