Cranes up close
My bookclub met today at the new (retirement) home of M. She used to live in a lovely home on a very quiet residential street in north Seattle. And now she and hubby are here—with this view to the West between downtown and south Lake Union. It’s a bit of a contrast. :-) this is the view from the 10th floor dining room of the building looking west…the building under construction on the left will be a 40 story Amazon building…I think that small Cornish 2 story building on the left is not going to be there long. There will be a small park where the trees are. A few of us had a tour of this big beautiful building that I have never seen before. Extra: looking north to Lake Union from the dining room...never noticed those pink and purple apartments...It all looks so different! (a 10 minute bus ride for me)
Oh yes, the book… The Perfect Nanny by a French Moroccan author, Leila Silmani. Translated from French, it made me so anxious to read about these very undesirable people, I just wanted to be done with it, and we never do learn why this very unbalanced Nanny did what she did. (Kill the children —it’s not a spoiler…it starts with this!) And the dilemma of working parents. Got lots of acclaim in France…I just wonder what happened to the translation. Do not recommend it.. :-)
Am happy to be off to the island in the morning.....
